Books I have read this semester(9/2022-12/2022)

Reading has really changed my life. When I was in middle school, I used to skip classes for novels and fiction. I read a lot of meaningless online literature just to kill time. And now, I am at uni and I picked up my habit of reading. I have read four books this semester and I am halfway through another two books. That\’s not a lot, but they have changed my life.

The four books are Crime and Punishment(1866) by Dostoevsky, The collector of worlds(2008) by Ilija Trojanow, Measuring the World(2010) by Daniel Kehlmann, and Roads to Berlin(2016) by Cees Nooteboom. All of which reminds me of how much I enjoy reading and urges me to keep going.

Crime and Punishment(1866) is a classic. It needs no words to further elaborate its greatness. And The collector of worlds(2008) and Measuring the World(2010), aside from all the fascinating plots in the book, both taught me that if I want to explore the world more, it\’s crucial for me to take the first step out. People will never be interested in you if you are not first interested in them and their culture. Since I\’m genuinely interested, if I express my curiosity and interest, the conversation will be easier to start and continue. And, another point I have learned is that the world is always bigger than you think it is. Like is said, one thing I know is that I know nothing. Some people do start off with this notion but build up their egos with their accomplishments, and they end up being just another person lost in the pride of the past, left behind by time. The Roads to Berlin(2016) however, is about the life and experiences in Germany from the post-World-War-II till nowadays. You can feel the weight of that history and the author\’s emotions through the words. I just finished reading this book today and it impressed me with so many thoughts and feelings.

I\’m going to borrow another book from the library today. Hope I enjoyed my reading. And hope you enjoy yours.
